Tips For Dealing With Fibromyalgia

How To Deal With Fibromyalgia

Have you ever wonder: what is fibromyalgia? To those who are used to being active, a diagnosis of fibromyalgia can be devastating. But you can still do many of your favorite activities even though you may get tired quicker and have reduced energy levels. A diagnosis doesn’t mean you can no longer be active, you may just need to change things up a bit.

If you can focus on accepting your condition and not letting it run your life, you can still enjoy things and be fulfilled without any fibromyalgia pain. The following tips can help those who are accustomed to being active, find ways to incorporate their favorite activities into their new lifestyle.

-Focus on the things you can.

Do what you can rather than worrying about the things you just can’t manage anymore. Being positive can help with your overall attitude and may even lead to finding some new activities that you enjoy.

-Get sufficient rest.

Realize that you may have to slow down after receiving a diagnosis. You can probably still do many of your favorite things but you may have to modify the activities and take more time when doing them.

– Reduce strenuous exercise.

Of course exercise is essential to a healthy lifestyle but you may need to do simpler, easier workouts to help deal with your fibromyalgia symptoms. For example, if you’re used to long distance running, you may be able to do those same distances in a brisk walk, or you may still be able to run but just on a smaller scale.

Some good exercises that are less likely to cause pain or increase symptoms are things like swimming, yoga and walking.

-Make sure you’re sleeping enough.

Sleep recharges your body and allows it to repair itself from the strains of the day. Even though it may not feel like it’s doing much for your body, you should still try to get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.

-Find some exercises that help relieve stress.

Fibromyalgia treatments may be stressful both physically and mentally, so it’s essential that you find some stress relievers. A beginner’s yoga class is a great option as well as walking in a place you find relaxing, like a park.
